Power Tools

Cordless trimmers, blowers, and hedge cutters that have quietly made gas optional for most yards.

Battery tools have crossed the line where, for the average yard, they simply make more sense than gas: no fuel, no pull-starts, no fumes, and far less noise. The single most important decision isn't the tool — it's the battery platform, because once you're in one, sharing packs across your trimmer, blower, and mower saves real money. Here are the trimmers, blowers, and hedge tools worth standardizing around.

FAQ

Good to know

Does the battery platform really matter that much?

More than the individual tool. Batteries are the expensive part, so once you commit to a brand's system you'll want to buy the rest of your tools in it and share packs. Pick the platform first, then the tools.

Higher voltage or more amp-hours for longer runtime?

Voltage (V) roughly tracks power; amp-hours (Ah) track how long a charge lasts. For light trimming a smaller pack is fine; for tall grass or big areas, buy the higher-Ah battery rather than chasing volts alone.

Corded, cordless, or gas for a small yard?

For a small, flat lot near an outlet, a corded trimmer is the cheapest path and never needs charging. For anything bigger or fenced, cordless wins on convenience. Gas only earns its keep on large or rough properties.
